"Strange Day" is the my first solo CD wahich was released on 4 July 2005. The CD is a collection of my best work up to that point. The tracks vary from the "Strange...", to kick ass rockers which will blow the roof off. "Strange Day" is a journey, not just a listening experience...

The Low Down...

I had the initial idea for recording an instrumental CD some years ago, but I was working on other projects at the time so wasn't able to complete the recording and production. Through a natural process of evolution the initail material that was written changed as my writing style, inspiration and musical influences changed...I even surprised myself sometimes because I ended up recording tracks which I hadn't envisioned. Some of the tracks were recorded very quickly others tooka little more planning and thought (esp those whihc have harmonised leads)...The whole process was in itself inspirational...

The concept behind the project was always to record a straight forward guitar oriented instrumental CD... what I wanted to do though was create different textures. My main influence when I am writing is my guitar sound...my tone dictates where the song goes. I took my time over writing and recording because I am never happy until everything sounds perfect to my ears.

In the back of my mind, I knew that I wanted to provide a real mixture of sounds and styles, but also wanted the songs to fit together perfectly, so some of the tracks are pretty trippy (e.g. "I'm Having A Strange Day"), and some are just full on fast an heavy (e.g. "Kick It To The Kerb" and "El Diablo") . I didn't want to end up with was just a collection of tracks which went through various styles of music, i.e. rock, blues, metal, jazz, etc...so the approach I tended to take was to throw all of my influences into the mixing pot and them just let the process happen. I didn't try and frce the songs as that approach doesn't work for me, I end up with songs I don't like, and indeed a number of track were shelved because of this.

There is a lot of exotic sounding licks thrown into the leads...I guess that's just my Indian blood...its also something that I picked up from listening to George Lynch and Warren DiMartini. Both are monster guitar players, and if you've browsed the rest of the site you'll already know that they have been hugely influential on me, however I have learnt from both guitar players and have created my own way of playing those scales and fitting them into solos.

The process and experience of recording this CD has been amazing and I hope that when you hear the CD you gain as much pleasure as I did while I was creating it...

The CD will be available through my website, Guitar Nine and CD Baby.com...

Enjoy!
